Congressman Paul Hodes Salutes PSU’s Environmental Initiatives Langdon Woods Residence Hall LEED Gold and Climate Change Pledge

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Plymouth State University’s bold environmental sustainability initiatives have garnered praise from New Hampshire’s 2nd District Congressman. PSU announced this week that its 347-bed Langdon Woods residence hall earned a gold-level certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership-Energy-Environmental Design (LEED) program. PSU is one of the first institutions of higher learning nationwide to earn this distinction.
“I want to commend Plymouth State for their leadership on green building,” Congressman Paul Hodes said. “Langdon Woods is a model of sustainable living that other Universities can now look to. I congratulate them on their gold-level certification and on their commitment to creating an environmentally sound community,” said U.S. Representative Paul Hodes.
In addition, PSU President Dr. Sara Jayne Steen has signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, committing the University to a broad effort by the nation’s higher education institutions to address global warming by neutralizing their greenhouse gas emissions and accelerating research and educational efforts to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate. The heads of more than 180 institutions across the country have signed the pledge. President Steen is also creating the President’s Commission on Environmental Sustainability to manage the University’s current commitments and develop forward-looking strategies and achieve goals.
